At the 2014 Tony Awards®, the creation of a new award for theatre educators was announced by stars Zachary Quinto and Matt Bomer. The Excellence in Theatre Education Award, presented by Carnegie Mellon University and the Tony Awards, was established to recognize educators who have made a significant impact on their students. This annual award recognizes any U.S. theatre educator in grades K-12 who embodies the highest standards of the profession.
In early 2015, nominations for this award will open to the general public.
Nominations will be accepted online, and vetted by a panel of judges from The Broadway League, the American Theatre Wing and Carnegie Mellon University. Finalists will be announced this spring. Each of the finalists will receive an honorarium and will be invited attend the Tony Awards on June 7, 2015.
