Tuesday included even more rehearsals. The nominees also learned who their coaches would be and which group they were placed in for the ceremony medleys. Both Grace Auer and Ian Hayes had the pleasure of working with Adam Kantor during their coaching sessions.
On Wednesday, the students had dinner at Sardi's, took some photos in Times Square, and then headed to the Schoefeld Theatre to see Come From Away. After the show, the cast came out to talk with the students.
On Saturday, the nominees worked to finalize the opening and closing numbers, and their medleys. It was finally coming together! On Sunday, all the nominees presented their medleys and solos for a panel of judges to help determine awards.
Then it was Monday and the nominees spent the day at the Minskoff Theatre rehearsing for the ceremony that was taking place later that evening. They ran everything multiple times and got to meet host Ben Platt.
After dinner, the students learned some of the award winners. Our very own Ian Hayes won the award for Best Performer in an Ensemble. It took everything we had not to share the exciting news with everyone!
After an incredible performance at the sold out ceremony, all the nominees and their families and friends headed to Planet Hollywood for the after party. They were able to eat and mingle with their biggest fans and share all the experiences they had throughout their time at the Jimmy Awards!
We are so proud to be able to offer this experience to two students from our region and put them on a Broadway stage. Thank you to everyone who supported our nominees and the Kenny Awards throughout the year. We can't wait to see what our 25th anniversary in 2018 will bring!
For over 25 years, hundreds of outstanding high school musical theatre productions in Western New York have been recognized and honored by The Kenny Awards.
